2024. FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
The following answers most questions.
As regards job size, practically no job is too small or too large for us. As long as the purpose is acceptable, size does not matter, usually. We are quite economical, and handle a great variety of assignments, ranging from large cases involving a team effort, to just small tasks needing only one staffmember for a little bit of time.
Valuable cases are handled by seasoned senior staff. Small cases are assigned to the appropriate staff, all of whom have been retained on the basis of their resourcefulness and diligence.
The biggest barrier to foreigners is the very poor English in Thailand, and the sanskrit written Thai language. For example, practically all government documents are in 100% Thai with no English translation. There's not much spoken English or written romanized text in Thailand business and personal matters, either. This is why the vast majority of demand is by foreigners, including expats who have been here for more than 10 years and who speak Thai well.
Therefore, most investigations must depend upon Thai staff. An expat in our operation may be necessary to fully understand your communications and needs, and in some cases an expat must do some or all of the field work. However, for most cases, Thai agents must perform the operations, if you want to be realistic about getting the most complete and accurate results, for the reasons stated in the previous paragraph.
For discreet operations, Thais are usually necessary. Expats stand out in Thai society.
We have an expat close to us in day to day operations, who is experienced in investigations in both Asia and the West. We also have a wide variety of expat contacts, including expats who have been living in Thailand for many decades.
Our company is owned and led fulltime by a former Thai journalist who knows how to get information of many kinds in different ways.
For Thai lady investigations involving bars where only foreign men may freely enter, the expat husband of the company owner is usually sent in. He has lived in Thailand for 10 years, is professional in his behavior, and has absolutely no interest in your girlfriend. We take these cases seriously because we realize that you are investing a lot of time, money and emotions and are making a serious decision in your life. Outside the bar, we use Thai lady agents primarily. This teamwork ensures the best kind of investigation.
Thai ladies are generally more trusted in Thai society than men, and seen as less potentially threatening in most occasions. Most of our agents are personable Thai ladies, especially for most of our interactive field work. However, we match the agent to the environment and situation. We also have Thai male agents employed.
Investigations, analysis and client satisfaction depend upon clear communications and understandings at all levels -- between the client and our point of contact, among our Thai & expat analysts, managers and field researchers, and with the Thai officials and other possible information sources we call and go out to.
Likewise, all of our close expat associates are intimately familiar with the broader parts of Thai culture and are fairly fluent in the spoken Thai language. (Some expats can even read the sanskrit-based language to at least a significant extent, though we rely on our Thai staff for all but the shortest translations.)
Thus, in terms of operations, we run smoothly and efficiently.
In terms of strategy, few other companies are in our league:
We are masters of the art of finding information in society. We retain only intelligent and resourceful analysts with positive additudes. The information you want is out there somewhere, and it's usually feasible to find it. It's just a matter of how good we are.
Good private investigators are motivated by the challenges of the jobs, enjoy exploring different realms of society and life, and like people of many kinds.
Many clients are surprised and impressed when they find that their case is not such a longshot or so difficult, after we analyze their case, identify possible leads, and formulate a systematic strategy. Our profession has standard systems and methods, but it also needs good ideas people and agents who won't miss clues, and that is where we excel.
First, we are familiar with how information is formally collected and organized in Thailand, and where it exists.
Secondly, we are also experienced with the best ways to gather and solicit additional information, be it thru our network of veteran contacts, targeted groups or areas, and/or the mass media.
Importantly, our staff are selfconfident, personable, trustworthy and able to work with a variety of people in Thai society in a good spirit. (This kind of work has a variety of adventures and intangible rewards, too, compared to ordinary office work.) As long as your case is the kind of case we deal with, whereby we are willing to take it on, then the outcome is usually both client satisfaction and our own.
A Thailand Scam?
One kind of frequently asked question is whether we are a scam. You should ask this kind of question. Likewise, if we were a scam, then we wouldn't be telling you to consider this. We also wouldn't be putting our street address and landline phone number on the website. You can call our office and reach many employees. Other businesses would not associate themselves with us, such as ThailandGuru.com . Scam operations generally don't do all this, if any of it.
Yes, there are many kinds of scams in Thailand, especially involving foreigners who want to live here to enjoy the prostitutes and bars but aren't able to make a living except as a desperado. Indeed, many are intrigued about experiencing the underworld and becoming a part of that sometimes exciting environment.
Yes, there have been double-dealing double-agent amateur investigators who conspire with the people who they are supposed to be investigating, including threatening blackmail for extortion. (This has NEVER been the case with our business.)
There is a lot of dishonorable behavior and outright evil here in Thailand, especially around the tourist and wealthy expat areas, which seem to attract some of the worst types of both foreigners and Thais. We are not part of the shady group of people, nor do we need to be in order to perform the kinds of cases we accept. Understand, the vast majority of Thai society is honest and honorable. When you go down into the tourist and wealthy areas, those attract a different sort.
We initially got into this business by helping known associates overseas, then checking out exporters before money was transferred (i.e., prevention of a bad situation), and internal company investigations of foreign branch offices. Discreet investigations of Thai girlfriends (initially for friends and associates) and finding lost Thai parents came later.
We do not, and will not, get anywhere near organized crime, nor even petty crooks and smalltime swindlers who exist here in countless numbers, as we make clear in our refused page. We just don't like being around those kinds of people, and we don't need to be.
Likewise, a lot of people who are doing bad things to other people and/or have something to hide don't like private investigators. Often, those are paranoid people, sometimes psychotically so (maybe they lose sleep at night), and they may think we are "out to get them". Their imagination can far exceed reality. Therefore, we do not publish our street address and identities on the internet. It doesn't matter that we make clear on this website that we aren't the kind of people after them, and they would only create more trouble for themselves with no benefits by going after us. Given the many crazy people with a bad attitude in this world, some won't comprehend what we write on this website, and will believe their paranoid fantasies. Thus, we ask that you understand why we don't openly publish our identities on the internet openly.
It's best to just send us an e-mail explaining the nature of the information or service you want. It can be a brief message before you collect information on your end, and we will tell you whether we are willing to take on your assignment, and give you a ballpark figure for the cost and terms. The final figure and terms come after further discussion and analysis. Different kinds of cases have different considerations, so we can't give complete guidance here.
